The Campolindo Cougars return to the CIF State Championship and look to beat the defensive powerhouse El Capitan Vaqueros
CARSON, Calif. — Campolindo (Moraga, Calif.) co-captain Adam Remotto had no words for it. With the game tied and less than a minute to go in the state championship game, there the ball sat on the StubHub Center turf and 85 yards of clear sailing in front of him.
It was only fitting that the guy they call the “Funk Factor” made the most stunning play of the biggest win in Campolindo High football history.
Adam Remotto, a senior utility player, had already provided his share of key catches and blocks in Saturday’s California Interscholastic Federation Division III state title game, helping the Cougars rally back from a 21-point deficit against El Capitan-Lakeside.
This surprise act in Moraga is getting stale.
Four seasons with a record of 48-4 and one CIF State Division III Bowl bid qualifies the Campolindo football program as a powerhouse.
The American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2015 Under Armour All-America Game visited Campolindo High School in Moraga, California, where All-American Tyler Petite was presented with his honorary game jersey.
(10-16) 17:33 PDT — If Campolindo’s 2011 football season would have made a good Hollywood blockbuster – as coach Kevin Macy suggested – then its 2012 campaign is worthy of some Independent Spirit Awards.
Not nearly as spectacular, but perhaps as unlikely, the 15th-ranked Cougars are 6-1 with their only defeat 16-14 at No. 8 El Cerrito – a game in which their late 38-yard field goal attempt narrowly missed. They have won 20 of their past 22.
