Football: Campolindo spurns Las Lomas with 31 unanswered points

Campolindo bounces back emphatically after losing to Acalanes a week ago

WALNUT CREEK — When Las Lomas scored first Friday night, on a 45-yard run by Elijah Lash with the game against Campolindo less than two minutes old, it appeared the Knights would be celebrating senior night in style.

But it took Campolindo only four plays and a little over one minute to pull even, and from that point the Cougars piled on with 24 more unanswered points in a 31-14 rout of the home team.

Las Lomas, ranked No. 11 in the Bay Area Preps HQ top 25, still holds a half-game lead in the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division over Campolindo and Acalanes. The Knights are 3-1 in league play and 8-1 overall. Seventeenth-ranked Campolindo is 7-2 and 2-1 in the DAL. Acalanes also is 2-1.

But if next Friday’s regular-season finales go as expected, there will be a three-way logjam atop the DAL-Foothill standings. Campo will be heavily favored to beat arch-rival Miramonte at home. Ditto Acalanes, which hosts Alhambra. Las Lomas is finished with league play but visits Walnut Creek rival Northgate.

Of course, when it comes to the North Coast Section playoffs, it won’t really matter that the three teams are tied. Campolindo is Division II, Las Lomas plays in D-III and Acalanes is D-IV. Wins next week should guarantee high seeds for all three.
